Course Description: .gif)
This course looks at issues faced by unmarried and non-traditional couples, both in the gay and lesbian community and the heterosexual community. The law is in flux in a number of states regarding same-sex marriage, domestic partnerships and civil unions, and often, the law is notably unfavorable. The lack of legal recognition at federal and state levels can leave partners vulnerable to a myriad of unintended consequences. In this course we examine prevalent issues and problems these couples face, the law, and the planning solutions that can be accomplished. The burden is on non-traditional couples and unmarried couples to protect each other both personally and financially through proper planning. As trusted advisors, knowledge about this specialized area of planning will assist you in providing services to your unmarried and non-traditional clients.
NOTE: The course level is basic to intermediate with no prerequisites required.
