Course Description:                                                                                                         Successful Women Register Now

This course reviews the need for retirement planning and the basic rules related to distributions from and taxation of IRAs and Qualified Retirement Plans.  We look at common reasons why retirement planning often fails and several planning techniques to help clients meet their retirement planning objectives.

We spend time understanding the calculation of minimum distributions during the participant’s lifetime and in the year of the participant’s death.  We examine what qualifies as a “designated beneficiary” and how that impacts planning decisions.  We also explore the planning opportunities for spouse and non-spouse beneficiaries and for the use of specialized retirement trusts to protect beneficiaries.  This is done in the context of both Traditional and Roth IRAs.

NOTE: The course level is basic to intermediate with no prerequisites required.

This course has been approved for 4 hours of continuing education credit by the Colorado Division for Insurance Professionals and the CFP® Board of Standards for CFPs.  It also qualifies for CE credit from the Colorado State Board of Accountancy for CPAs.
